Somebody forgot to put any news in
this news article...
This is one of my industry rags and they are apparently trying to appear political in posting a controversy about the Obama campaign in reporting that the campaign claimed they were going to run an ad on the TV network that runs at high end gas stations, but GASP! they aren't. They have statements from the TV network and everything, it's really cute.
Basically, I can tell you what happened... Obama's camp was doing it's media buying, the rep from the TV network said it was cool, and the Obama camp published its media schedule. Someone at the TV network probably saw it, reminded the rep that they can't carry political ads (from anybody) and the rep probably called the Obama camp back and said they couldn't do it, but it was cool because they hadn't even made it to an IO (Insertion Order) yet.
Where this gets weird is that the TV network bothered to issue a statement about this, which actually polarized them against the Obama campaign. Probably went something like "hey, we just want everybody to know we're not carrying this ad"... but who cares? Clearly not the mainstream media because they're not bothering with this story.
Someone over at Ad Age actually thought this was a hot tip!
