Geek Talk: The Avengers

SO, pardon the geek talk here, but I think this is pretty cool.  Two summer movies out so far, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, are both making mention of what had already been confirmed to be a new movie about Marvel's equivalent to the Justice League, The Avengers.

Over the weekend, my kid brother and I were wondering if Marvel was going to do individual movies for all of the original members first before actually doing The Avengers movie, but wrote off the idea that they would bother with a movie about "Ant-Man".

Turns out, there will be an Ant-Man movie.  I was wandering IMDB Pro today checking to see if a book I am reading has been optioned yet and there it was.  I can also see a few others I knew about, such as the new Captain America movie ("The First Avenger"), Nick Fury, and Thor.  Also listed are two X-Men "Origin" movies for Wolverine and Magneto, Spider-Man 4, new Iron Man, Ghost Rider, and Silver Surfer flicks, and a host of others.

On the DC side, I see the Justice League movie is still listed (but marked as tabled for now, but also having a release date of 2011), The Flash (2010), Green Lantern (2010), Superman: Man of Steel (2009), Wonder Woman (2009), a second Constantine (2008), and a friggin' Doom Patrol movie due later this year!!!!  Of course, that whole list was on the "in development" list, so who knows.  In production were Watchmen (being handled by the guy who did "300") and Jonah Hex (deep guys, really deep).  I also see a new Sin City 2 and 3, a Hard Boiled, a Ronin, and The Sprit, all Frank Miller products.

Here's a deep one, Pixar is working on a animation/live action mix of "John Carter of Mars", a Edgar Burroughs book I remember reading awhile back.

There's also another Jurassic Park flick on here, a new Bourne movie (guess the director flip-flopped when he said he was done, eh Rachel?), and a Machete movie (from Grind House).  I also noticed a new "Dune" movie, but that says its still in Outline, so who the hells knows (I almost wish they wouldn't).

Finally, there is crap load of movies tied to video games, including Halo and Metal Gear Solid.

Sure, people may know about a lot of these, but for a guy that hasn't been to ComicCon in years, i think it's a treasure trove of information...
