Ouch…
Even when you know it’s coming… even when you’ve had the discussion in your heard a half dozen times… even when you’re at your most prepared, it’s still not the least bit enjoyable…
The thing is, we had this discussion already, at least part of it. This was just the part where she admitted she wasn’t too keen on sharing and I had to say that, given that I was the object in question, it really wasn’t up to her.
Yeah, I’m a real sweet talker.
Not exactly what I had planned for a Thursday night, but you know, my other options were busy, so what else could I do but go over and hurt someone’s feelings.
I think what frustrates me is that I didn’t claim it was any different in the beginning. “Hey, I’m seeing multiple people right now. If that’s a problem, we should talk about it early.” Maybe she thought the others would shake off in a couple of months… she was right, the thing she didn’t realize was that she was one of the others.
At least, in all of this, I stood my ground for something worth the effort.
Anyway… a full day lies ahead. Going to have a run, go to work for a couple of hours (just long enough to finish packing until they kick me out to move my office upstairs), either head home or over to see Rachel early if she’s awake, off to The Getty for some music and a nice view, then to a fright fest of movies. Now THAT’S what a date is supposed to look like… maybe I’ll even get to hold her hand this time… ;)
Oh, hardware update… yeah, I know, you thought it was all done. Thursday morning I came in to a note from my boss that her boss was upset about the hardware thing; now that I didn’t see coming. Turns out, it was probably some bad intel on her part because she thought was needed to buy all this new hardware because 650 people needed it right now, not slowly over a year’s time… yeah, I can see how that would freak her out. Took her all day, too… luckily, I seem to have made a friend in the Accounting department that could break the news to her. Better that way, we in Marketing always look like we’re trying to talk our way in or out of something… not true, but you can see how that would not be useful in this situation. Should be all better now, we’ll see… boss is gone until next Thursday, so my buffer is gone for a bit, but I actually like it that way.
