You guys!!! I have heard the best news I have ever heard. I will tell you what it is.
The pistol shrimp!!!
It is possibly the loudest animal in the sea and it is very tiny. It is shrimpy, if you know what I mean. It has one large claw to make cavitation bubbles at it closes the claw. These bubbles can generate acoustic pressures up to 80 kPa at a distance 4 cm from the claw! And do you know what this means? It means that this pressure can kill small fish and shatter glass! Like an opera singer!!! But this, if you can believe it, is not all!!!
The snap can also make sonoluminescence when the cavitation bubble bursts. The burst bubble can reach temperatures of over 5,000 K (this is 4,726.85 degrees Celsius). Do you know what this means??? OK! I will put it in perspective. This is almost as hot as the sun! This clapping shrimp makes light and plasma when it is giving you a round of applause! Can you believe it???
