Today I had a prenatal checkup (16 weeks). It was good and bad at the same time.
First, they said that I lost a pound, which I think it is the clothes I was wearing, so I probably stayed the same weight since my last appointment. It's ok they said, because I am overweight for my height, and are only supposed to gain the weight of the baby.
My husband and I got to hear the heartbeat of our baby for the first time. That was very exciting. The doctor said that the baby was low on my stomach, but was fine. She couldn't find it at first, and I got totally worried. But she found it and it sounded great.
BUT, she said that my blood pressure is not good at all. At my first prenatal appointment in March, it was 123/80, which is not great. When I had to go to the ER in April, it was about 134/80. Today, it was 112/90. The 90 is BAD. That is hypertension stage 1. This can lead to Preeclampsia is a potentially serious disorder which I looked up this evening. After reading a bit more about Preeclampsia, I was reading about how the find protein in the urine. They did today in mine!!!! But my doctor said that this might be due to not eating lunch. So who knows. I'm still a bit worried which is not helping. She told me I have to come back next Tuesday, because they want to check it again.
And then, I had to do the blood test to detect birth defects. I know it is a high rate of false positive, so I am not too worried if it comes back positive, although I do take a lot of meds. So who knows. But what made it worse, was them trying to take the blood today. They poked my three times, and said go drink water, and come back in a hour. I have flat veins I was told. So my husband and I did, and they had a horrible time. They said that they only needed a little vile, but they were only able to get it half full. They said it should be enough to work with. So we will see.
I'll be back at the doctor next Tuesday.
