Hello all, long time no write, but I have to keep my yearly updates going if nothing else.
2007 was a pretty good year. I've made some good decisions regarding bills and career. My Credit Card debt got paid off at the begining if the year and I have spent the last year diminishing it in general thanks to a personal loan from my parents. I have a NewER, SAFER, cuter car than I used to drive. I've learned a GREAT deal about myself and what I want out of life. I've had some great experiences and memorable moments. I got the greatest gift of my adorable Neice who I love more than I thought was possible.
AND on New Years Eve I got a special gift of my life not being taken thanks to a seatbelt and a luckly placed ditch. Here's what happened:
Monday Ben, Tony and I were in Groveland, CA at Yosemite Pines Campground. We were waiting for my parents to arrive so that we could all go into the park (Yosemite) and walk the path to Bridalveil Falls. Because my mom doesnt like winding roads on the sides of cliffs, I suggested she ride with my brother in the back seat (since the cliffs are on the passanger side) and I offered to ride in the Explorer with my dad. We were in a caravan of cars maybe 6 cars long and my brother was the 2nd or 3rd car making us the 3rd or 4th. Everything was fine, we hadn't reached the park just yet, so there were no cliffs and the roads were still nice, no ice or anything. We came around a curve and everything seemed fine, all the cars in front of us were fine, but suddenly the back end of our car was sliding and we were facing the wrong way and everything was happening really fast and before I knew it I was hanging upside down from my seat belt with lots of glass everywhere. My dad and I were yelling to make sure the other was okay and luckly we both were...The radio kept playing my new Wreckers Album...I put down an arm and leg on the roof of the car and released my seatbelt. I wasn't wearing shoes so while I waited for my dad to crawl out of the car(his window was broken, mine was not) I looked around but I was facing the wrong way (my shoes had been on the floor in front of me, but I was facing the back of the car). I did have our cell phones in hand so I tried dialing 911, but there was no reception and i grabbed my jacket from the back before crawling out the door. By then Ben, Mom and Tony were there and they were checking that we were okay. Another guy, Ronny i think, who had been right behind us and watched it happen, was also there to assist. Some people stopped to find out if they could help and went on ahead to tell the rangers at the park entrance. Ben and Tony got everything out of the car, we sat around and took pictures and waited for CHP and the towtruck. After that we followed them to the wreck yard and said goodbye to the trusty Explorer.
It was an experience I'll probably never forget, I'm hoping it won't make me skittish (sp?) on roads like that, but was pretty nervous driving home yesterday. What I find most amazing is that if we had been a few feet closer to the curb when we came down upside down, i dont know if the front of the roof would have stayed in tact as well. My dad got away with a few VERY small cuts on his head and one larger one, but still relatively small on his hand. I have a mark on my forehead and nose, and a small lump, but no cuts or other bruises. (pictures can be found in my myspace pics)
Talk about lucky...I means seriously. The frigging car was upside down!!!
So thats how i said goodbye to 2007. With a bang. Here's to hoping for not repeat performances in 2008! Cheers ya'll!
