Tuesday, December 19th
A storm was approaching New Mexico and Colorado on Tuesday which was threatening our Vegas plans. However, we made it to the airport and had a very humorous guy check us into Frontier. He teased us about going to Vegas and how he thought he ought to warn Vegas that we were coming. haha. We relaxed for a little while because our plane wasn't there yet. When we did start boarding, the same funny guy was taking our boarding passes. It was one of those two-seater planes and I was very nervous about flying in it, but it was fine. Whoever had been on the plane before me left Glamor and People magazines in there so that definitely helped. We had to sit on the plane for a while because they had to de-ice it. We took off late and got into Denver late. We were glad to see a sunny sky in Denver because snow was threatening there as well. We got off the plane and found our gate in Denver to make our connecting flight. When we got there, no one was boarding so Caroline and I decided to find a snack. We were searching for something to eat when Meat called and told us to get back to the gate because everyone was already on the plane. This is when assigned seating is very helpful. We got on the plane and there was tv on it so we watched some guy on the Food Channel making chocolate tiramisu. That did not help our hunger problem. We sat on the plane a long time before we finally left. We got to watch tv until we reached 10,000 feet. Then they turned it off and you had to pay to watch more. There were two free stations so we pretty much just watched those the whole way even though they were kind of dull. There was one cartoon short about a caterpillar and a praying mantis that held our attention for a little while. haha. We landed and proceeded to baggage claim. We were very grateful to see our luggage because we had had such a short window of time when we had switched planes. We took a cab to the Luxor and checked in. We made the Luxor live up to its promise of ajoining rooms and we were very happy. Our rooms were very nice. Each room had two queen beds and two armoires with what we called 'club lighting.' The bathrooms were great with a huge, deep tub and separate shower. We also had this really nice bath mat that they removed from our rooms the next day. We were not pleased. Anyway, we sat for a little while and got settled. We looked in some magazines to try to decide where to eat and finally decided on Wolfgang Puck's Italian restaurant. We went downstairs and joined the Luxor's Player's Club and then headed over to Mandalay Bay which was connected to our hotel. We were a little early for dinner so we looked around at the other restaurants and stuff. Oddly enough, across from Puck's restaurant was a statue of Lenin. It was pretty amusing. We met Jenn and Sarah at Wolfgang Puck's since they were going to Blue Man Group with us afterwards. They brought out some bread for us, including this very suspicious looking piece that Caroline almost convinced Michael was oyster bread. A few minutes later, while the rest of us were enjoying the bread, we looked over at Michael who had a very disgusted look on his face. He had taken the 'oyster bread' and taken a nice big bite out of it. He told us that it was not good. After a closer look we found that it was a garlic clove. hahaha. Silly. Anyway, Caroline and I split lasagna which was very tasty. We finished up there and were a little pressed for time so we set out to the Venetian to see BMG. We walked very very quickly. Unfortunately, I got like two blisters because of it, but that's okay. We made it to the theater with a few minutes to spare. It was a great show. Much larger theater than the one in Chicago so I think that made it even better. The only drawback was the kid behind us who did not stop talking the entire time. I think everyone really liked the show. It's just so funny and clever. After the show we took a picture with one of the Blue Men and I was very excited about that. The picture came out great! After that, we looked around the Venetian. It was a very pretty hotel with a gorgeous shopping area. We also got mango gelato which was quite tasty. After the Venetian, we looked around the Bellagio which was also very pretty. It was all decorated for Christmas. We watched the Bellagio water show for the first time and became addicted. After the water show, we headed back to the Luxor, which was no short trip. We made it back and I think everyone was getting pretty tired. Caroline and Mike went down the casino for a little bit but Meat and I stayed in the rooms because we were exhausted. I think our day ended around one a.m.
More to come...
Oh, and Merry Christmas!!
