I was mildly confused last week when I received a big package of information from University of Ottawa about scholarships and the large amounts of money they spend on research every year. I have been getting mail from universities all year (mostly because I requested crazy amounts of information at the University Fair) but the information I got from University of Windsor and those of its ilk just included their viewbook and sometimes additional books about the programs I said I was interested in. There were never any of their alumni magazines or research innovation booklets and definitely no letters with real signatures on them (I am always entertained by the printed or rubber-stamped signatures that usually come on "personalized letters" from big organizations).
The reason for the big information package became clear on Thursday when I came home from drama practice to find a second piece of mail from University of Ottawa that explained that I had been accepted. Now, I had no idea that anyone got accepted before April or something and I definitely didn't think that they accepted people based on grade 11 marks, which is what U of O said they did in my case. I've been accepted into the Faculty of Arts to major in co-op Lettres francaises. I need to accept their offer before May 28th and keep up a 70% average for my offer of admission to stand.
The funniest thing was on Friday when I got a third piece of mail from U of O saying that they had received my application and that this was the only notification I would be receiving from them before they mailed out acceptances.
The worst part is that I still don't know where I want to go for university.
