Holy macaroni and cheese, I have fallen SO far behind it is not funny! Luckily I had saved these entries in WordPad so I can bring you the first two weekends in September of the life of Count and Countess Gregula :P.
September 4th-7th
It all started on Thursday when I had to work 12p-4p. It was a busy day but not so busy where I had to stay late like I did the previous 2 workdays. Cathy the store director even mentioned to me that someone had written a nice letter about me. What a compliment! Drove home in the torrential rain we had been getting all day because the Midwest was getting the ass-end of Gustav, whee. Kind of odd to have the dregs of a hurricane in a part of a country that doesn't see them. I went home and relaxed a couple of hours, then
count_gregula and I decided that we wanted to have dinner and see a movie so we went up to Niles/Glenview to eat at
Pita Inn, which was yummy as usual. I had the beef shish kebab and Greg had the mediterreanean chicken tenders. Seems like they have been keeping the place arctic cold lately because I was shivering throughout the meal, so we opted for some hot tea and baklava for dessert. I also tried a pastry called guillaj (sp?) which was baklava-ish but had some cheese in the middle which was an odd texture but very tasty. Went back to Golf Mill to see The Dark Knight for the second time because we wanted to see if we appeared in the movie as extras. Greg said he saw both of us on the ferryboat scene near the end of the movie, which were actually digitized versions of us from pictures taken in front of a green screen the day we filmed. But we were still in the film, how cool is that??? I can't wait to get The Dark Knight on DVD!
Friday we decided to to go eat at
Sweet Tomatoes because Greg got a buy one get one free coupon in his e-mail. Went to the casino afterwards and Greg won $10. I lost $20 :(. We ended up staying out really late and didn't get home til almost 7 am :-O. We went back to the house and rested for a couple of hours and headed to North Avenue Beach for the Red Bull Flugtag. It was SO crowded, I doubt we could have moved anywhere even if we tried. Good thing we had gotten there early and snagged a sweet spot in front of the flight deck. Unfortunately some TALL jerks were standing in front of us so that was very annoying! We were able to peek through and see everything, and eventually squeezed our way to the front later on. It was a lot of fun and we got to see a bunch of hilarious skits and people getting wet ;), The winner of Flugtag was a bunch from Maine who dressed up like four lobsters who put a chef in a pot and threw him (actually her) over the edge and their aircraft glided 102 ft over the water before landing. They called themselves, get this...The Crustacean Avengers! My personal favorites were The Flying Ditkas and Heavy Metal Santa and his Evil Elves. We went to eat at
Golden Apple afterwards becos we were starving, then hopped on over to Mother Gregula's neighborhood and hung out at the Guinness Oysterfest where G. and I tried hookah for the very first time at one of the booths. Holy moley that can get addictive, anyone want to come and smoke hookah with us???
Sunday we were hoping to go to the German Fest in Lincoln Square but we got a late start and unfortunately could not find parking. It wouldn't have mattered if I was not working that night but I had to be at work by 5 and had little time so we just went to eat at
Cap'n Nemo's and had soup and sub sandwiches *yummers*. Greg ended up going over to the German Fest after I went to work and my sweetie brought me home a nice bratwurst plate...awwwwww *mwah*.
September 11th-14th
We had more weather weirdness over that weekend :-/. For some weird reason this year we got the remnants of the nasty hurricanes and as a result we had rain for three frickin days!!! Which made for some horrible flooding in my area, luckily we don't live near the riverbank so our place stayed dry. Hopefully the folks in places like Albany Park and DesPlaines have dried out by now, thanks a lot Ike and Gustav :|! Not to mention that I always feel so gross and dirty when it is raining out so I am glad to see the sunshine! Which is weird because I don't normally like bright sunlight but it feels so good to not be wet I will live with it :D.
On Thursday we went to eat lunch at
Robey Pizza Co. and we had some yummy salads! Greg had the chopped chicken and I had the cran-apple which was SO good I wished I could turn time back so I could have eaten it a second time :). We went back to the house to relax and find out what the heck Mother Gregula and Rey were up to because we were supposed to meet up with them. They decided that they just wanted to go eat at
Golden Apple so we met up with them around 7:30ish for dinner where I had some cheese quesadillas and Greg had his usual chicken wrap.
Friday we went down to Berwyn to meet up with our good fiends (and friends) Ron and Angie from the Svengoolie mailing list to celebrate their belated b-days and it was good to see them! We haven't been in touch for a while becos both Angie and I are now working new jobs and been both hella busy :). We ate dinner at New Seneca, where I had a yummy shrimp creole. Mmmmm...haven't had that in years! Afterwards we stopped over at our friend Jim's art gallery/media shop
Westside Multimedia for his monthly gala and artist showing. It was great to see Jim and his wife and even got to meet their new baby Lucas James :).
I had that Saturday off, but I did have to work 5-10p on Sunday AGAIN so we couldn't do a whole lot. If I remember what we actually did the rest of that weekend I will definately edit this. Whee.
WHEW! I'm glad that I am finally caught up!!!
