Wow...I really haven't had much of a chance to post these days except for a couple o' rants that I posted as "Friends Only".
Well, last Thursday's "It Came From Lake Berwyn" event at
Cigars & Stripes was fairly successful for our very first time selling merchandise. We managed to sell 4 DVDs and one of the bat-guano chip cookies with bonus CG bat included netting us about $43, not too bad, but I think we would have done better in another venue as all most of the patrons seemed to be interested in was buying beer (well this was at a bar lol) and watching the free films in the tent. I don't feel too bad because the other vendors weren't doing as well, we shared table space with a guy who was drawing "scari-catures" of people and not a lot of people came up to him either and the folks at
Monstro Café even left early due to lack of sales. Well anyhoo, my
count_gregula, Svengirlie aka
evil_b_13 and I enjoyed running the table (which ironically was situated near the port-a-potty, how bout that? LOL!) and being the centre of attention as guests of the festival. We even got free drinks courtesy of our AWESOME good fiends Ron and Angie, who came out to the show to support us, as well as our other friend John from
Horrorbles. Other guests of the event included Joliet's very own Horror Host Count Midnight, who conducted an interview with The Count and Myself for his television show, and the infamous Dave "The Rock" Nelson, who showcased his film "Mummy A.D. 93" and was generally being his freaky self...I so didn't need to see Rock take off his shirt on stage and do wrestling poses, eek! Also, the film "The Psycho-Tronic Man" was featured in the main tent as well as Chris and Loren from
"Hot Rod Zombies From Hell" who were there to audition more extras to play zombies in the film. Big thanks to Ron from Cigars & Stripes for having us as guests, and special thanks to John from Horrorbles for the publicity!
Friday and Sunday, Greg and I went to the
7th annual Chicagoland Entertainment Collectors Expo in Prospect Heights. We got to meet 3 of the original cast members of "The Addams Family", Pugsley (Ken Weatherwax), Wednesday (Lisa Loring) and Cousin Itt (Felix Silla)! It was exciting to meet them, and I was suprised to see that Pugsley is now thin, lol. We got autographs from all and Felix Silla had the most awesome annoucement...."The Addams Family" will be finally coming out on DVD in October...YAY!!! We also met up with Carel Struycken (Lurch from "The Addams Family" movies) to get his autograph and OMG he was so tall...he even made The Count look short, lol! It was funny to see Carel standing next to Felix Silla, who pretty much only came up to his kneecap, heh. Everyone was soooo nice to us and I found out some interesting trivia: Lisa Loring (Wednesday) went to high school with Larry "The Soup Nazi" Thomas (who was also a guest)! We also met Bob May, who was the man inside the robot suit on the show "Lost In Space" and got an autograph as well. I also ended up winning a nice matted print of a Norman Rockwell painting of Santa Claus making out his list that was featured on the Saturday Evening Post in the raffle that was held at the convention, go me! We also got another surprise when we were getting our wristbands on Sunday, one of the staff members at the registration table actually recognized Greg from "Count Gregula's Crypt" and introduced us to the actual promoter of the entire show who said that they might have us as guests at their next show :D.
Sunday, after the show was over, we had some awesome Chinese food at The Golden Chef in Wheeling, IL! Greg had chicken chow mein and I had beef chow mein...it was great to have an old-fashioned Chinese meal, not that I don't like Chinese buffet, but it was nice to have a traditional restaurant experience. The egg rolls were fantastic, and I am picky about them lol.
On Saturday, we picked up Angie and we all went to the Route 66 car show in lovely Berrrrwyn, IL to see
evil_b_13 and the Evil 88 Monte Carlo. We spent time visiting and having fun, enjoyed looking at all the different customized and classic cars. We also enjoyed free popcorn and lemonade courtesy of a local church. Greg, Angie and I also stopped over to a Walgreens to check on their Halloween goodies and I saw a couple of things that I am definately going back to get, including a little pumpkin waterglobe with a bat inside :).
