Things I've Done

I've been thinking a bit about eljay and how I never update and why exactly I feel that I should and what I want to get out of it. My conclusions were these ( Read more... )

I'm so glad to hear that you have decided to stay around! I've had a number of good LJ friends disappear over the last couple of years (not going to lie, the fact that they deleted their journals rather than ceasing to write was a little hurtful, given that meant they absolutely did not want to check in with their friends anymore :-/ ), and although the quiet times pop up every now and again, I've always found the benefits outweigh the negatives. Like you, I like having a safe place to write, vent, and seek advice. I love having my life documented in a meaningful way that I can easily reflect back on and smile. Sharing with others small glimpses of what that life entails in return for theirs ( ... )

I think you're the only person on my flist who still updates regularly. You're definitely the only one who's commented on my journal in a very long time. I really need to find some new friends here. Do you have any tips? You seem to have a semi-regular influx of new people. How do you find them?

It does help me to look at that list of achievements. I actually feel really proud of myself for doing all of that, because normally I'd just put it off because it's not that bad (yet) and then before you know it my house looks like something scary on one of those tv shows about hoarders. Not even exaggerating on that. Cleaning up for housesitters was a massive effort before we went away. And today I'm even feeling inspired to do more because I can look at what I did yesterday- it wasn't nothing! There is a point to housework! I don't have to live like some kind of filthgoblin! I think if I can keep some momentum going and write myself a few reminders of how productive I can be, I might just be okay.

I joined the add_me community a while ago and, whilst the results vary, I sometimes add people who post if it seems as though we might click and they're not going to disappear straight away like so many do! I've also participated in the last couple of friending memes some of my LJ friends (like silviarambles and phoebeagle) held a few months ago, and they've been the best so far because, a) mutual friends are usually a good sign of shared interests or similar personality types, and b) the only people who participate in them are the ones looking for new LJ friends! I'd definitely recommend making new friends if you want to get serious about returning to LJ. It helps to keep you active and interested :)

Why don't you write about your Christmas and New Year's break? What you did, where you went, who you saw? It can be difficult to make connections to the content when there isn't context behind it. Easy writing exercise to get you started, too!

That does look like an interesting community; thanks for the link! I have Plans about updating with some travel tales, and the recent trip will very likely be mentioned. Now I just need to figure out what else I'll be blogging about here so I can decide what I should say in an intro. This journal has been through so many different phases- constant memes, real life, fandom, social justice issues, mental health stuff... I'm honestly not sure what will come out when I write now. I'm so out of practice!
