Unpacking, and Fry da Bomb!

Nov 04, 2009 12:01

I invited some folks over to play games or watch movies friday, and its the perfect excuse to dig into the stack of boxes in the Den, where the table and chairs will go.  SHannon and I set up the table to do some beadwork, but if we want four people comfy I needed to get those boxes finished.

Anyhow, I was working away and of course the stack that whittled down to nothing was the stack of 6 boxes that made up Frys' Gerbil Watching Station.   I had plans to rebuild something when I was done, but Fry beat me to it.

I was unpacking a stack of mixed computer papers, disks, office supplies, and toiletries (yes packing got hectic at the end) and standing  in front of the gerbil cage.  Suddenly a huge blur whizzes right by my head and with a huge THUMP!  Fry is attached to the gerbil cage itself at eye level to me.

Of course, he is too heavy and the cage and he both start slipping off the bookshelf, yet he does not let go.  I quickly grab on to keep the landslide at bay, and then grab fry by the scruff of the neck. I don't do that often, as he is so big and heavy I worry about hurting him and my wrist.  Anyhow I yelled NO!  and pulled him bodily off the cage and THREW him to the ground with a good extra bit of leverage.  The last thing we need is a airborne fuzzy warrior zipping abouy the house jumping onto things.

He thudded into the ground, leaped a foot off down the hallway, then instantly turned back and sat in his spot,  watching me, with hardly even a bruised pride.  Despite his lack of fear at the all-mighty hominid manhandling, It might have worked  since he made no further attempts to launch himself while I was working.

I knew I couldn't leave him alone, so I shifted the cat tree over from against the hallway and placed it near the cage, and put him into it to make sure he knew to use it for his viewing. He promptly settled in watched his gerbil porn while I came into my room for a rest break and maybe a half hour of WoW and Email.

And for all animal lovers, our little furry prey critters, Tweek and Butters our gerbils,  really do NOT care!   The thump and bang and shaking of a nearly 16 pound airborne predatory missile hitting their cage and pulling it off the shelf didn't even make them thump!  However, they did drop their sunflower seeds and had to pick them up again.   Obviously they were traumatized.

OH and Fry is definately growing again. He rested a lot the past few days, and today is squirrellly and has eaten like crazy. For example, the vet says we should feed him a 1/4 cup of food a day.  Yah right.  This morning between 7:30 and 9:30 am he went through almost 2 CUPS of food.  He only seems to eat like this right when he is growing, so Ruth and I fear the worst.  He already overflows the cat tree shelves :)
