Good news

As some of you know, I’ve been having a bit of a fight with the Department of Work and Pensions over the last few months. They decided to give me a Christmas gift in the form of cancelling my benefits on the grounds that I didn’t go to a medical interview that they didn’t tell me about until after it was supposed to have happened. I appealed, it was rejected on the grounds of covering their arses, so I took them to the Tribunal.

The hearing was on Tuesday and the upshot is that I won. They have to pay me much money and the judgement has harsh words to say about incompetence and maladministration and that it should never have gone so far. I represented myself, which means I had a fool for a client but at least I got to feel what Lisa, Lilly, Liz and Sandra get to feel all the time when they win their law cases for people.

In other good news, I am now an aunt. My brother and his wife Amanda’s first child, young Meg, was born yesterday. By ill-luck the birth was very difficult and in the end a Caesarian section had to be done and it was touch and go for a while, but now both Amanda and Meg are safe and happy and are recovering well. My mum is enjoying her first day of being a granny and there is now an heir for the family lands in the next generation so that’s something else I don’t need to worry about :)
