Quoted in the Sunday Times this weekend, Jill Berry, headmistress of Dame Alice Harpur School:
"Young women believe that they can have it all and, if they don't, they will have failed. The truth is that they may succeed as mothers, and they may succeed in their careers, but to do both at the same time? That's not possible without huge sacrifices."
That's my old headmistress there. Thanks for the positive message there Mrs Berry, particularly seeing how it backs up my own mother's choices and thus strongly held opinions. I guess I better make a choice - oh wait, I already have.
Although I must confess, if I didn't know her as an authority figure in my formative years, I would be much less concerned about this quote than the rest of the article (Bred to Work, Kate Kerrigan)
(I feel I should add, I'm not normally a Times reader - I was at my parents' on Sunday)
