I can't believe it's the last day of our trip. I also can't believe someone took the time and effort to write such a grandiose, epic opera about Jerry Springer and that I paid so much money to go see it. I thought it would be some jokey thing, which it kind of is, but it really is a legitimate opera, complete with Vikings, explosions, Hell and a big black Jesus. I don't think it's playing in the US yet and I'm not sure it would go over that well if it was. It's getting all kinds of rave reviews over here though.
Two British trends that need to cease immediately:
1. The bad 80s clothing revival. It was stupid then, it's stupid now.
2. Musicals based on the discographies of washed up rock bands, usually written by Ben Elton. "Mamma Mia" was fine, but now we have a Queen musical, a Billy Joel musical, a Bee Gees musical, an Elvis Presley musical and worst of all a Rod Stewart musical. Rumor has it that a Jackson 5 musical is opening soon.
Andy White is playing at the 12 Bar Club tonight. I can't remember if I like him or not. I think Kurt sent me one of his albums a long time ago and it might have been good but it broke and I never got to listen to it again. Also, Morrisey is playing tonight, but I know I won't be able to get tickets to that.
Today we went to Regent's Park to look for the nesting pair of Peregrines that is the talk of the London RSPB. I was actually able to see them, thanks to some guy with a telescope, one of many that was out there. Also saw some crows harassing a Grey Heron and what I believe to have been a Little Grebe. I'll have to look that one up. After that, we finally did something cultural and visited the National Portrait Gallery. The one of Prince Charles feeding his chickens is quite good.
I'm assuming Ken won the election. Guess I'll have to wait until 9 tonight when they announce the official results.
