Continuing with my 16th anniversary of California week; 7 things my 23-year-old-self who just moved here would ruthlessly mock me for if he could see me today:
1. Owning a house in the suburbs.
2. Working 40 hours a week in an office.
3. Being in bed by 11 every night and awake at 7 every morning.
4. Picking up my wife from her yoga class in my Prius, then stopping at Whole Foods for cat litter and kefir.
5. Putting up a clothesline, growing a garden and keeping chickens in the yard, all of which amount to admitting my mom was right.
6. Watching every single episode of Felicity and The O.C. on DVD.
7. Recording songs for use in commercials. (I still mock myself for this.)
(Note: The Prius did not exist in 1994, nor did Felicity or The O.C., or mass-market DVDs for that matter. My time-traveling 1994 self surely would not have the frame of reference to be able to mock me for those things. Indeed, they would probably seem futuristic and mind-blowing.)
