Abundant Life
Originally uploaded by Ghostly Penguin Display. I do declare that it has been a long, strange and surreal weekend.

On Friday morning I awoke to find 13 crows in my front yard. If that's not an omen of ominous good luck, I don't know what is. Then we went to Brad's memorial service where his bandmates and former bandmates played a tribute to him on the huge church stage. They have a ridiculously elaborate sound system including wireless mics and a glass cage for the drummer. It's probably the best equipment we'll ever get to play with. If that wasn't weird enough, we watched a slide show of Brad's whole life. Just a few weeks ago he was all excited about finishing his album and going on tour. Now he's a slide show and a tribute? I still don't get it.

Later on we went to Charlie's and played a twilight outdoor concert for Brad, using our more familiar thrift shop instruments and equipment. We played for hours; every song we could think of that had any connection to Brad, and some that had nothing to do with anything at all. I can't say we sounded great, but at times I think we tapped into the centuries old tradition of what communal music is all about. I hope we keep this going and none of us go back to our normal lives anytime soon.

Yesterday the Corner Laughers spent all day at Hyde Street Studio working on a top secret project with CvS. Oh, you'll hear it when the time is right.

Also - I tracked down a long lost college roommate from Michigan State that I haven't seen in at least 17 years and it turns out that he's been living 30 miles away from me since 1996.

One last thing - the 2009 almanac has been updated for February.
