Forks In The Mailbox

If you haven't noticed, I'm on Facebook now. I always assumed old people were not allowed to join until I saw an article in goldenmoonbear's paper about the company. They seem like good Palo Alto corporate citizens; they situated their business downtown next to the train station and they encourage their employees to live nearby. Good enough for me. It struck me that when the Facebook generation is my age they'll never wonder things like "remember Joe from journalism class? Whatever happened to him?" The concept of losing track of someone and rediscovering them online years later will no longer exist. Everyone they know will constantly be at their fingertips. That is, unless the entire electrical grid goes down during the oil peak, which we all know is going to happen any day now.

Thanks to generous birthday gifts from my parents, Karla's parents and Karla's grandma I now have one of these. It's the stage piano I'd been wishing someone would invent for the past 10 years; 88 weighted keys, under 30 pounds and under $1000. I'll probably use it in public for the first time at The Red Devil Lounge on July 18th. More about that as info becomes available.
