This Sunday will be Larry Bensky's final broadcast. I've woken up with Bensky every Sunday for the past 5 years and he will be sorely missed. He was one of the last voices of reason in an increasingly inane radio landscape

Yeah, that's the song I was thinking of. I forgot who did it though. I knew it was one of those Madsen-sounding bands.
I didn't even get into San Francisco and Marin in this post. There's probably another long list: Ord Street Studio, Mandrake Books, Wild Oats, New Albion (?), Musee Mechanic by the Cliff House (I know it moved somewhere, but I'm sure it sucks now)...
Proving that I am an embarrassing old power pop man, I actually procured the CD with that song recently. I saw Tommy Keene open for Guided By Voices some time ago and bought a couple of his albums, but "Songs from the Film" (supposedly his best) has long been out of print. It spent 3 years on my Amazon wishlist before there was a used one cheap enough for my tastes. I don't know what the point of this story was.
Anyway, the Musee Mechanique (sp?) is now at Fisherman's Wharf. It still seems pretty cool.
I miss Wild Oats most of all for supplying us with Dr. Wild.
There was also Signature Thai which died, but then it resurrected and I don't know if it's still awesome or not. Did anything else from our 4th St days go the way of the poodle?
Didn't Taco Jane's (for lovers only) shut down in San Anselmo?
Spin the Apple never reared its ugly head again to my knowledge...

I know there was at least one other used book store besides Mandrake that closed. There was a Jewish used clothing store called "Such A Deal" that I liked. Other than that I can't really remember anything.
I would consider the Academy of Science's temporary move to fit in to this category. Even though they will move back to GGP it won't be in the same cool buildings (I think they were torn down?)
And is your "read more" quote by any chance a reference to the Tommy Keene song of the same name?
