Hot Dog Manners

According to the landlord, our house was built in 1906, meaning it turns 100 this year. We've been trying to dig up some historical information or photos from its early days but there's not much on the internet and the Mountain View library's historical room is almost impossible to sort through in the limited hours that it's open. Personally, I believe that it used to be a farm.

Anyway, I was down in the basement yesterday and I noticed an old disheveled dresser that I had never seen before. Thinking that it might be a portal into another time (ala "Time Windows") I opened it and sure enough, it was full of magazines and newspapers from the 20s, 30s and 40s addressed to a Mrs. Bess L. Sifert. I Googled her and it looks like the Santa Clara library has a file on her, but I'll have to go there in person to see it.

More importantly, check out some of these old time ads and articles.

Highlights:

From 1937: An article about the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge. More here. Don't forget the Bay Bridge from a year earlier.

From 1936: Visit Nazi Germany!

Real estate prices from 1922.

Also from 1922: Woman Kills Pair Of Indians In One Shot. The small print at the end says there will be an investigation into whether any crime was committed, presumably by the Indians.

Health Insurance For Milch Cows?

I muffed that one.

I must say, you're a miserable housekeeper.

Dis heah's real mayonnaise!

Shot from guns in golden showers.

And my personal favorite: Five Big Boners.
