...you know, I haven't done "story time" in a long while. I think I'll pick up from where I left off. [There's the sound of rustling pages, and then after a bit-] Ahhh, right. Now, I'm not as learned in Auldrant's history as some others from my world, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.
With the core of the planet liquefying and the land masses beginning to sink into the mud, the people of Auldrant began to fear for their lives. To make matters worse, the appearance of a mysterious gas -which they called miasma- began to seep over the land. It was poisonous, slowly killing off people and wildlife alike. What once was a beautifully prosperous world was becoming a waking hell.
Yulia began to work furiously on a solution. Some individuals thought they could build a tower to the heavens to escape this world, use it to cross into the stars; they called it the Tower of Rem. Unfortunately -obviously- they were unsuccessful, and as the situation drew more dire the pressure on Yulia grew heavier. Finally, she developed a method that seemed like it would work:
If people couldn't leave the land, then she would lift it above the troubles of this world. She developed the Passage rings, fontech that utilizes the ten Sephiroth points of Auldrant -essentially the fon slots of the world itself- and creates the Sephiroth trees, spouts of memory particles that lifted the world's crust up above the mantle and above the miasma. They also formed a protective barrier that trapped the miasma below. Auldrant became a world floating in midair, supported by ten powerful -and yet frail- Sephiroth trees, and as time passed on land that knowledge was sealed away beneath the crust and entrusted only to the Watcher's City, named after Yulia Jue, and those of the highest rank in the Order of Lorelei.
People grew up, living on this floating land, none the wiser to what was going on right beneath their feet.
