In honor of the Sparkledammerung, I watched Julia Leigh's Sleeping Beauty.

It was billed as a movie even more boring than Twilight, and it lived up to the boast. At no point in the first hour and a half did anything resembling a plot emerge. If the characters hadn't emoted, or the film had been edited with excessive and gratuitous montage, or the soundtrack been self-consciously attuned to a tween audience, I'd have suspected they were going for parody, but no; it was completely, unrelentingly sincere. A Polanski movie with all the plot and human interaction scrubbed away, so all you get are endless, beautiful close-in snapshots of utterly sincere, sphinxlike enigma.

It reminded me of Solaris, in that nothing ever happened, but I almost enjoyed watching it not happen.

Almost.
