Summary judgment was rendered in the case of Golinski v. Office of Personnel Management, granting medical benefits to the spouse of a woman named Karen Golinski, whose wife is also a woman.
More importantly, and far more dramatically, the court slapped down the case in favor of DoMA as so broadly unfounded, and DoMA as so blatantly in conflict with the entire concept of equal protection under the law, that gay persons are now considered a
suspect class, at least in the Federal District of Northern California.
If the reactionary forces in the United States realized how few people in the United States actually sympathized with their cause, maybe they'd just shut up, but my suspicion is their reaction will be cognitive dissonance: to take as evidence that they are the sole barrier between the United States and total barbarism any further progress by the law toward equal rights, and equal protection for all, as mandated by laws only 150 years old.
