It was why they ran; it was why they were elected. Because contemporary history, science, and social studies texts did not comport with contemporary community standards.
The fact that those community standards fail to comport with verifiable facts, has nothing to do with school board elections.
The Texas textbook vote. Always gets a rise, and people always take things out of context. 8th Grade textbooks never mention Jefferson. 7th grade textbooks never mention FDR. This got yelled about last time around and we were condemned for it. Never mind 7th grade is <1865 and 8th grade is >1865. Or the fact is the first vote of many and won't be decided for a while, they always approve too much and cut it down to size later. You'll get about 800 pages of stuff mandated, but about 500 of it gets cut out due to space. But its fun to watch all the people outside of Texas jump all over us before all the decisions are made.
And of course, McLeroy, the villain in this debate is...a lame duck whose policies (if one can honor them with that term) are fairly unlikely to see the light of day, even in Texas.
Bottom line: Moderation, balance, nuance and insight are boring! histrionics are much more fun.
And this isn't even the final vote, this was a prelim vote, the actual vote comes in two months. But none of the news articles even mention that. McLeroy had a small faction and all but one were voted out. But yes, histrionics are much more fun.
Nooo, Texas is a weird melting pot of its own. The North Korea of North America is...well, there is no place quite so shut off as North Korea. Maybe Westboro Baptist Church. That's a half-decent fit.
