She knew she had to take the risk. No matter how small the chance, she knew that she had to try it. Waiting until she was there, it was going to take too long. So what that the machines were only in the testing stages? She’d rather have something awful happen and at least know that she’d tried, as opposed to just waiting another sixty-three years to be able to get to the rift in time and get back. She was withering away, and she wasn’t sure that there would be anything of her left by that point. She knew she had to do it, had to at least make the attempt to get back to her world. Sure, her parents said that the other world was hers now, but she knew it could never be. Not without him there.
So she threw herself into the idea, doing what she could to make sure that it was going to work, and plunging in headfirst at the hope that it would. It was pure luck that she made it through unscathed and she knew it was the last big risk she’d be taking in a while.
Well, until they landed somewhere dangerous, as the TARDIS was likely to make them do.
