The smile faded as soon as it came. Ana turned to look back to him and the fact that he was peeling an orange. Still, curiosity always killed the cat as her head snapped to the side to look to Jack in back of them. Her dark, dark eyes glared slightly, but also held being unsure of him. Still, she wasn't like the other girls. Her innocence was taken long ago. Turning back to John, the woman fiddled with a smaller stick in the sand for a moment before meeting his eyes.
"They're animals. They steal children in the night and keep lists." she was speaking honestly. "But for what, John?....why would they take those kids? What did they do? They were safe. Unharmed." Speaking more clearly. "The list had all of us on it." something the Latina wouldn't even tell Jack at this point. "We fought back in the middle of the night, but it didn't matter."
Her own dark brows arched at his words. What the hell was he talking about half the time? She wondered sometimes if Jack thought of this when he spoke to him. Then again she didn't care about him right now. Ana frowned when he had asked her about being a police officer. Yeah, he definitely was forward. "Where did you hear that?" the Latina asked with a faint grin. The kind of grin that showed maybe she was just as mysterious and as beautiful as the island itself. There was something about John that made her at ease. He was almost like a very weird father figure, but still he was wise and caring. That was what Ana-Lucia needed at the moment. A friend.
Almond shaped eyes stared back out to the sun as she bit down on her bottom lip for a moment. "Yeah... I was a cop...for a while." wasn't like she'd spill out her insides to him, or anyone else on the island but the least she could do is tell the truth. Not that anyone would listen but that was beside the point.
(When Locke asks her about the view.)
An odd look was given, but then the faintest of smiles showed up on her full lips. "Yeah, it is." flicking the knife back to its situated spot and placed it at the back of her jeans as she tossed the carved stick out to the ocean. Looking forward towards the sunlight and it was beginning to get brighter by the moment. Ana had to shield her eyes from it as she looked toward the water. The island was indeed beautiful and mysterious. She hadn't exactly gotten to appreciate its beauty. This was where most people went on vacations...to the islands. Sadly, Cortez had never been but now, well this wasn't exactly a vacation.
"It's definitely a sight." the woman responded as she tucked a few loose strands of ebony in back of her tanned ear. Still that smile remained. It was almost like he brought out the human being in everyone. "Why is it everyone can't appreciate its beauty?" turning to look at him now. Maybe it had a double meaning, she didn't know..
