Thanks! Haven't had to do that in a while, but I guess there's some stuff you never forget, huh?

That is supposedly what one learns it for!

Pretty much. Though my teacher would have had my head for using what he taught me like this.

Ha ha! No, teachers tend to frown upon improper usage. But if it's practical...

If it's practical than you might as well use it, right?

Well, there does have to be a certain respect for the sword... But generally, yes.

Yeah, but it's kinda hard to respect anything if you end up dead cause you didn't use your sword. At least, that's how I figure.

If you want to be traditional you could say that improper usage is worthy of death. ...But that seems a little pessimistic~

Maybe more than a little. It's kinda old school to do that, isn't it?

That depends where you're from, I'd say! It's not that strange to hear it, I think.

I guess not, but it seems kinda drastic to me. I mean, if you've trained to use the sword already, wouldn't it be kinda dumb to kill a trained soldier? Just means you gotta train another one and that takes a lot of time.

...Ah. But only very rarely is the soldier valuable enough that he cannot be replaced easily.

Maybe. But that doesn't make him any less valuable as a human. His life shouldn't be thrown away just because he didn't give his sword the respect someone else thought it deserved.

You forget that he may be of the same opinion-- or holds his superior's opinion in high enough regard to listen to it even in such a situation.

Hm, but it's definitely a little old-fashioned...

I guess. Still doesn't make his life worth any less than his superior officer's. Can't command an army if they're all dead cause they thought they were worthless.

Guess there's a reason for the saying "out with the old and in with the new", huh?
