let the great work begin

Today Fab and I were talking about the freaking out of some about OH NOES PRESIDENT OBAMA. Not long after that, I heard someone on tv talking about the changing idea of what American *is*. That under Reagan (which is the shadow American politics has been living under since then, though I think that it honestly stretches back to Nixon and his "silent majority" and southern strategy) it was all "small town" aka "WHITE PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME" and now it's we're a country with a ~BROWN PERSON~ for president. It's like when the Jeffersons moved in next door on All In the Family but FOR THE ENTIRE NATION.

I've went around making mental \o/ arms and ;♥; and not with the sense that something has changed, but more than something(s) can change. The thing is, there was a very small sliver of this feeling in 92. The idea that the baby boomers were in power and gonna really shake things up, hobviously that didn't happen for a lot of reasons, but I think the biggest reason was people thought that was the end of the fight and not the start of it.

(Also that the left hadn't yet learned the lessons it would take Dean to teach and Obama to perfect which is: bottom up and not top down)

Leadership is something that has sorely been lacking. Leadership means... well leading. Getting you up and moving to somewhere. The simple belief that you can change the world cannot end with the presidential election and resurface again in four years.

My first election was 2000; not a good way to start off with that entire "faith in my democracy" thing. But, I hope, last night proved that yes, Kent Brockman, democracy does work. It works if one person works with another person works with another person (and another person fucks up so badly that people will look for leadership in places they once would have never had). (Of course lol not a democracy but whatever). Even my inner fluff ball true believer has been squashed and beaten further and further down over the past 8 years.

So whatever your thing is, stick with it. Keep talking about it. Keep pushing for it. Follow your local races down to dog catcher when those things happen. Whatever change is it you want, make it happen one little interlocking lego block at a time.

With all that said, JFC, GEORGIA. PLZ TELL ME WHY YOU CAN'T SEEM TO GET RID OF THAT STAIN ON HUMANITY THAT IS CHAMBLISS. HE SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO EXIST.
