Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings concert tonight!! It's going to be awesome. From what I've heard, Sharon Jones is wonderful live. Even though it's at Louie's which in my past experience has had dubious sound quality.
I went hiking again earlier this week, having two days off in a row - a rare occurrence. I'm already getting a bit of a sun burn. I was planning on trying out my
new pack, and I didn't get to do as much as I would like to, but at least I'm more familiar with it. Hiking backpacks are always so much fun to figure out. There are always secret pockets and hidden straps to pull and interesting ways to access the top, bottom and middle of one's pack.
Yesterday I engaged in philosophical debate in the very quiet basement of
a very noisy pub. Exchanged high-fives over awesome points made. It was fun. It was also nice to see my brothers again, as now my entire family is in P.A. and I'm in Saskatoon. We're hopefully making plans to
hike to Grey Owl's cabin as a group this year. It should take three days - one day in, one day to relax, one day out. I'm totally bringing my inflatable beach ball, which I have now decided ranks as absolutely necessary camping equipment. It's super light-weight, takes up no room whatsoever, and is a good way to convince people to get into a freezing cold lake with you.
Hiking is awesome, but I really need to get in some canoeing and kayaking this year. Unfortunately, since the cabin up at Waskesiu won't be finished until at least August (and probably later than this), I'll need to content myself with short day trips and weekends. It's for the best, after all. I'm rather sick of having to share the cabin with mice and voles and bats and squirrels and wasps and... Well. It's a very old cabin, and while I feel great affection for it, and I'm not going to miss pondering the inevitable circumstance under which I will finally require a rabies shot.
I'm hoping to get some short hikes in when our convey travels through
Banff/Jasper en route to our family reunion in Penticton. That will be nice. I've also been reading up on
Mt. Robson, and hiking the Berg Lake trail is something I definitely want to do. Even if it kills me. I'm from Saskatchewan, so hills are rather foreign to me, never mind mountains. We'll see!!
