What's a Slayer?

Oh, a Slayer? Well, it used to be that there was one girl in all the world that was infused with all the powers needed to fight the vampyres and the forces of darkness. But just a few months ago, this particular chosen one had her lesbian witch friend disperse that power to every girl who could possibly be a Slayer. So now there's thousands of them out there! [Probably more information than he wanted...]

...it's a chick who kills vampires. Vampyre Slayer is really the whole title.

Ah, so she slays vampires and the supernatural forces of darkness. Like I do.

Oh, sure! That's it. I didn't know there were other Slayer-types on board! Of course, you couldn't be a real Slayer, 'cause something about Slayers can only be girls.

That's what I said! 'Cause I bet guys could do the Slayer business just as good as girls, you know? I don't get the prejudice. But I was just told that that's just the way it goes. The demon spirit was put in a girl and it just stays in a girl all the time or something.

[Oh, Pit, you are making Andrew the happiest litte storyteller there is.]

Well, long ago, like, centuries ago, these old wise men in Africa--or someplace like that--saw that the forces of darkness were far too powerful and they took a young girl and through a painful ritual, they infused her with the spirit of a demon--like I said. Well, they were prepared for her to die pretty quick, considering the powers she had to battle, so when she wa killed, the spirit was passed on to a new girl. And it just goes on down the line forever. Well, except for recently.

...I have /got/ to watch the BtVS series finale again.

So what happened that warranted the...spirit passing on to all those who were going to be Slayers soon? Won't it cut their lives short?

B--but see, there was this big battle. All kinds of demons and ubervamps were crawling out of the Hellmouth and The First Evil was going to destroy the world. There wasn't really another choice. I think...

Uhm... Amanda. A couple whose names I didn't know... I actually don't know the number, the whole battle only happened a couple hours before I got here. But, uhm, two of my friends who weren't Slayers didn't make it, either.
