This is less a standard permissions post and more an attempt on my part to get to know the characters with whom Sherlock is to be interacting. Because of his nature -- that is, because he is capable of noticing the minutest details about a persons appearance and behaviour, and of drawing (nearly always accurate) conclusions about said person, their activities, and their emotional and mental state from these details -- I am required when I play him to either perform a great deal of independent research regarding each and every character he encounters, however briefly, or allow his deductive capabilities to suffer or fail for what are generally arbitrary reasons.
I would like to play him properly. Better: I would like to play him properly without having to go out of my own way to familiarize myself in great detail with characters and canons which may hold no particular interest for me, honestly speaking. I would furthermore hate to be presumptuous -- I know that people often diverge in slight or significant ways from their canon and that my interpretation of characters is bound to vary from other players'. Therefore I humbly ask that anyone who wishes to have their character interact with Sherlock leave a brief post here detailing the following:
- what Sherlock will be able to tell about this character and their recent activities
- what they make effort to conceal (if anything) and whether or not you wish that attempt to be successful
- a (very brief) description of this character's personality or a link to the same
Now, I realise that this may be excessive, and I certainly don't demand it from everyone. However, anyone expecting to play with him frequently is asked to grant me this favour, and perhaps, if desired, maintain open communication with me on occasion to update me as to your character's doings in the comm. I suppose I am capable of keeping track of everybody but quite frankly I'm not certain that I should have to. I don't think that's unreasonable, nor do I think it's unreasonable for people to refrain from answering this little questionnaire. However, as it is apt to help the quality of my writing and make our interactions more personalised and enjoyable I think it's in everyone's best interest.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to playing with you all.
