A Fine Passion, Chapters 1-5

Okay, I've taken on the task of starting off our discussion this time.....yipe!

I don't know about anyone else, but if this novel ever became a screenplay, I would beg and plead for RA to be cast as Jack Warnfleet!

Before I get started, let me first say I really liked this author, and this story.  Yes, there was smut, but there was also good plot, setting, and character, something some romances are lacking.  I will say though, her chapter breaks annoyed the crap out of me!  I couldn't put the book down for several reasons, but mostly because when you came to the end of a chapter, the next chapter literally was the next thought of the character!  Maybe this was just me?! LOL

Chapter 1
Apple blossoms....for a moment I thought we were being transported back to the lilac rain, and I was happy to be proven otherwise.  Poor Jack, he's done his duty for king and country, and now is back to try to get on with his life, and he his saddled with a ton of estates that need his attention, and the ton breathing down his neck because he is marriageable!  Is it any wonder he high-tails it back to Avening?  Being caught on a balcony with a young girl is certain to end up in a marriage!

I loved his arrival at Avening, and his first introduction to Lady Clarice, or Boadicea, as we come to know her as.  The poor lad in the carriage accident was well worth the banter between the two.  Jack's surprise at hearing Lady Clarice is understandable, but when you aren't around for a long time, changes are bound to take place.  Clarice is a fighter, but when pushed, her vulnerability comes through to those who look close enough, and Jack is one of those people who do.  Her concern for the injured man, and her suspicions regarding his accident open up a whole other side story to this novel.

Chapter 2
More about the carriage accident, and Clarice's suspcisions.  She definitely isn't come ingnorant chit, is she?  And Jack actually listens to her, and isn't that what we all want...and man who actually listens? LOL  Jack realizes he actually wants to reach and touch her, something that he's been resisting against.  He isn't repelled and wanting to run in the opposite direction.  And her reaction is mostly the same.  She's been taught from an early to resist such a temptation until marriage. But, her opinions of Jack are based on her own imaginings....her own accounts of his absence.  Of course, she jumps to the worse conclusions, but I suppose there has to be some other conflict between them besides the sexual one.  But, despite her accusations, he has to have her, which is sexier than anything! *thud*

Of course, over lunch she learns how mistaken she is....oops.

Chapter 3
So here we learn just what Jack has been doing all these years, blah blah.  It was interesting, but I won't go into detail.... Now comes the apology, and the banter back and forth between them, laced with sexual tension and need.  Asking for a kiss is going against every mode of propriety they should be abiding by, but what the hell......

Chapter 4 and 5 to follow....

a fine passion
