The Cougar Ridge elections are over and one of them has been a closer affair than many would have anticipated. Whilst Josh Barty has retained his position as Sheriff without difficulty (nor with any attempt to win it, considering he was the only candidate), the mayoral race has seen a huge fluctuation in one man's fortunes. Poor Jared Caldwin, from a position of seemingly having success in the bag, awakens on Monday morning to discover that he has lost by a single vote. Where does this leave Caldwin, a man abandoned by his wife, at odds with his family and with his home a charred wreck? And, with regard to his absent running partner... just what is that phone call that Marshall Teabow is thinking of making?
Meanwhile, at the school, the situation is desperate: there's a full-blown staffing crisis, students no longer feel safe, and questions are starting to pile up. Will Helena Baxtor accept Principal Clark’s offer to join the faculty full-time? Which students will be cast as the leads for Romeo and Juliet, with the play due to be performed in the second week of December? And who will ask out whom for the upcoming Sadie Hawkins dance on the first week of December?
Too many questions? Well, how about some answers! That's what Sheriff Barty is looking for, whether he knows it or not - answers concerning the spirit of the Ridge and the creature let loose from Room 13. Does Mama Mei Chen know answers? She's certainly not forthcoming, but that won't stop Starre and Noah from confronting her, or from digging deeper for the truth.
And also speaking of answers, we all now know the solution to the mystery of who murdered Faye (and who went to jail for the crime!). However, even in death the victim is posing questions of her own: her funeral is due to take place but for those mourners who show up (if anyone does...) will this be a time for sadness, or a time for dark comedy? And what role will Lydia LaVie play in this affair?
Questions aplenty whilst answers have been in short supply, but this week a numbers of conclusions could well be reached. They'd better - because next week there's another mystery on it's way...
