Even when you win, you lose....

I've really caught the poker bug recently. The fact that I seem to make a profit on most of the poker nights I play is probably why I still have it. I will say, though, that it's not without its cost. The fact that I was up playing last night (this morning) until 3:00 and didn't get to bed until 3:30 makes for a rough Tuesday morning. On the other hand, cashing in for x dollars and cashing out for 5.2x dollars definitely has a way of making it seem worthwhile. It's good that my job doesn't really require me to be awake...

In other card game news, I made most of you aware of my finish up in Toronto (because hey, how often does a scrub like me have a finish like that?) and the fact that it won me an invitation to play in Japan this fall. I didn't think I was gonna make it, though, since it fell right in the middle of my first semester of graduate school and the fact that it would not be cheap on any level. The biggest problem was that it was friggin' Japan, making any trip there at least a week-long endeavor.

But then the guy who was nice enough to put me up in his place in Toronto, vienneau, had to go and qualify for the same tournament (and congrats to him on that). He'd said that he'd try to win an invitation and if he did then we'd room together while we were there. Given how difficult it is to qualify for these things through the qualifier tournaments, I figured I wouldn't have to make good on that particular promise and that my semester would be safe. Looks like it's time to start planning a trip to Japan for what will no doubt be my second and last Pro Tour experience...
