Oh, hey, drains, we know about those! :) Are they having you flush it at all, or just leave it alone and keep him on antibiotics? Out of curiosity, what antibiotic did they put him on? Are they having you do compresses for it?

Looks like they sutured the drain to his skin, too, which should help keep him from picking at it if he has pain sensors in his body. Tink does not, she has in the past removed a drain that was STAPLED to her after she had removed the first one, which was sutured.

Let me know if you want my Dealing With Draining Wounds primer. :) Tink and I are old hands at that one...

nope, no flushing. no compresses - it's really grody/oozing. can we wipe it with a damp cloth? he's on clavamox, we were just talking about it - it says take with food but he is not eating today - no way, no how. he's clearly nauseated - belching and lip licking, so now what? wait 'til tomorrow?

I definitely wouldn't give clavamox on an empty stomach, the ONE TIME I did that with Tink she ended up with a c. difficile infestation in her gut that had her spewing out both ends. In fact, I'd recommend adding yogurt or an acidophilus pill or powder to his food while he's on it and a couple days thereafter. Could you convince him to eat a spoonful or two of yogurt so he can take his pill? If not, I'd leave it til tomorrow, personally ( ... )

someone cleaned it, either jef or charlie (i think it was charlie) before i woke up this morning (jef has to work today, so he woke me up as he left) and it is in pristine condition and it's no longer oozing. i didn't give him the clavamox last night but i'm kind of worried about him not eating anything - he goes off his food pretty easily. last time he was under general (to get his teeth out), he didn't eat for 2 days - and they'd even given us wet food but that didn't tempt him.

i will see if he will eat yogurt though - i'll have to go get some.

if you'd like to come over and pet him for a while, he'd appreciate it. our friend alex came over and pet him for a couple hours straight yesterday and it helped him feel much better.

I would love to, but it's a little bit of a drive, and I have to be at work tomorrow :(

poor baby. i would guess that they probably gave him an injection of rimadyl while he was there and that's why you can't start it until tomorrow. were you charged for a pain injection?

i'd use a warm wet paper towel to gently clean the oozy.

he looks wiped out :(

see, jef handled the vet stuff yesterday and as a result, i don't really have complete information. i do believe that he mentioned something about him getting something for the pain at the vet so, yeah, that's probably the reason why. my poor guy, he hates the vet. it's no wonder why.
