The Trials and Tribulations of Being a Slot Specialist

I was trying to get into a machine at work today and the latch was sticking. So I cranked on it and my hand slipped and my (acrylic) nail broke off, making it about half the length it was. Didn't even notice it until I was out of the machine. I'm forever smacking my hands and knuckles on crap at that job, so I didn't think anything of the stinging ( Read more... )

When I worked IT I was always having to dig in computer cases to replace one component or other. For as many sharp edges and stubborn bits as there are in modern cases, the old ones were much worse. My hands were always covered in cuts. Sometimes I'd have blood on them and not know it until a coworker said something.

Do you guys have TITO machines? Or are you more traditional and stick with the coin?

And more importantly, do you have those fucking 'Risto and Quest machines?

Oh, we've got 'Ristos so old that they won't take new twenties. Or the new twenties before the new twenties. If it's got a big face or one with colour? It's not going to take it. The new 'Ristos aren't so bad, though. They're not a pain in the ass to get into, at least. But we've got one model that takes a full stack of TITO, but not in the way that every other machine takes TITO. It has to go in upside down and backward. It's dumb. We get so many no-prints because people don't put the TITO in right.

I think we're about 94% TITO now. The section of the casino that I'm in more often than not only has one dollar and five dollar machines. We had quarters in my section until last month. They replaced half of them with quarter TITO and the other half with two cent'ers.

You're so lucky you don't have Quests. Those fuckers lock up into hand pays all the damn time. TITO lock-ups are a pain in the butt for every department involved, I swear ( ... )
