Hi guys, this is
kokified under a new journal - I don't use that account anymore, so I'm going to update with this account from now on.
Wow I haven't been posting anything here for a long time (3 and a half years to be exact)! Anyway, I'm back with a new tutorial for you.
Today we're going to make an icon out of
this image so we're going from
to
or even
Program used: Adobe Photoshop CS5
Translatable: Not sure but you could try. If the color comes out too intense to your liking try to play around with the settings.
1. Crop and resize your image.
2. Duplicate your original image then on your duplicated layer, hit Filter -> Sharpen Edges. Then set the layer opacity of your duplicated layer to 63%
3. Layer -> New Adjustment layer -> Selective Color
Have the following setting:
RED: -100, -3, +82, 0
YELLOW: +100, 0, +59, 0
and this is what it should look like
as you can see my icon looks a lot brighter now. But it looks a tad dark to my liking.
4.So I'm going to go ahead and add a curve layer to brighten things up. Layer -> New Adjustment layer -> Curve
Have the following setting:
RGB: On your first point = Output: 79 & Input: 71
On your second point = Output: 207 & Input 181
(This may vary depending on your image of choice)
anyway, this is my outcome
as you an see my image looks nice and bright now. And the color stands out a bit more.
5. But I'm going to take a little notch and make it a little more vibrant. Layer -> New Adjustment layer -> vibrance
Have the following setting:
Vibrance: +50
Saturation: 0
(again, this may vary depending on your image. Some image may need them more than others. So just play around with your setting)
and this is my outcome
You can stop here if you like. But if you want to play around with your coloring a little bit more go with the next step.
6. Layer -> New Adjustment layer -> Selective Color
Have the following setting:
WHITE: +100, 0, 0, 0
NEUTRALS: +17, 0, -2, 0
That should give your icon a nice blue tone.
And you're done! :)
