power outages and flooding!

oh my!

big huge severe thunderstorm went through yesterday, knocking out power and flooding the streets!

and our tv station. yup. our studio and the news director's office were flooded. master control was flooded, the weather center was flooded.. after the power came back on, master control seemed to be okay, except that the EAS computer wouldn't start. it's the thing that puts those "the national weather service has issued some sort of warning or watch for this area until this time" text crawl on the bottom of your tv screen. and we need that. cause it's illegal not to have it. we haven't checked the weather system yet.

we did like a 5-10 minute news break in the parking lot after we were able to get some power. we were able to clean up the studio with brooms, mops, and then a wet-vac. we put on a half hour 9 pm newscast. with lots of video of the flooding and stuffs.

here is a video i took with my phone. it shows the alley between the studio where i was standing and the control room (yes the control room is actually a shipping container with siding on it.).

btw you can hear the rain if you turn the sound up really loud. and it's so short cause that's all the video my phone can handle. :P

i'll try and steal some more video at work today.

btw, i think the power outage messed up our thermostat. cause it says it's 28 degrees in here, which is obviously wrong since it feels like it's like 75 or so.
