Last weekend my parents came down to visit. We went to the Smithsonian Natural History museum on one day and bowling on the next. Fun! When we bowled, it was Daughterpinx, her cousin T, her cousin B, me, and my mom on the lane with the bumpers. The rest of the grownups bowled on the non-bumper lane. They also have these ramps for the little kids -- you set the ball on it, aim it where you want the ball to go, and let the ball roll down. It gives it enough oomph to actually make it all the way down the lane, unlike when they try to roll/push the ball themselves. With the help of the ramp and the bumpers, Daughterpinx was the high scorer on our lane. (What does this tell you about my bowling skills? ;-D ) I DID score one strike, though, and no bumpers involved. It was the bowling equivalent of millions of monkeys with typewriters, i think.

Knitting stuff -- what with the company last week, didn't have much time to do any knitting. I am in the process of knitting up 4 teeny swatches so i can practice joining them together. There are two different methods i want to try to see if 1) i can figure it out, and 2) i like one method better than the other. Once i have successfully seamed pieces together, i think i'll try something ambitious next. I have a handful of patterns for fingerless gloves, and i'm dying to try to actually make GLOVES out of them. Thanks to the "wonder knitter" I picked up on a whim when i bought all my knitting accessories (basically a spool knitting loom), i can very easily knit tubes that are just about perfect finger-size. A gather-bindoff will work perfectly on those. I probably won't even need to decrease, just run a string through the stitches and pull it together. There are either 6 or 3 stitches to make the entire tube. (I was planning to work with the 6 stitch version.) Once i have closed-end tubes, all i need to do is seam the open ends onto the fingerless glove/mitt base. I ALSO have another idea i want to try to enhance the glove idea even further, but i guess i might try plain gloves first before i move on to an enhanced version.

I think i need to look into getting another book. I vaguely recall seeing one that listed lots of different stitches. That's kind of what i want; a loom stitch encyclopedia. We'll see. Also, Isela Phelps has a new book about cable knitting on the looms that should be out. I'd like to get that as well.

other stuff, knitting
