Hellooo everybody! I'm back from my billionth posting hiatus!
But this time I actually have a reason for neglecting my lovely little eljay.
Ren was here! I spent the last week in bliss.
Except for managing on the Sunday brunch shift, I got the entire week off to hang out with her.
I showed her around Washington and a few of the local towns (Not that there's much to see); showed her the Kewash trail, Sunset Park, Lake Darling, Café Dodici and No Shame theater.
We borrowed bikes so we could cycle down the Kewash and through Washington. Ren came just in time for everything to start turning green. The weather was great; warm and sunny for most of the visit, and a little rain some evenings that would patter softly on the roof as we were curled up on the futon watching Kingdom Hospital.
Heh, great weather except for the small tornado that roughed up Iowa City a bit. Poor little Dairy Queen. I never knew ye, but may you rest in peace.
I've never felt more comfortable, more natural than I did when Ren was there. It felt like everything that was wrong with me faded into the background, leaving me happy, mellow, and loving for the entire week. It felt totally natural having Ren around, like she was someone I'd been hanging out with since I'd been a kid.
Every day was filled with new mannerisms, thoughts, expressions that are set in stone inside my head.
We bought some different-colored duct-tape and Ren made me a kick-ass curtain for the corner of the efficiency apartment that serves as the bedroom. I got to cook for her a little while she was there, which was fun.
Grandma Carolyn and Dave came out for Easter, and Mom made the traditional Easter brunch on Saturday so Ren could be there. As usual, Mom outdid herself with cheesy-pesto potatoes, chorizo sausage, scrambled eggs, bacon, streusel bread, egg bread, three different jams, homemade chai tea, and tons of Easter candy. She even made Ren her own Easter basket.
And what's even more awesome is that everyone loved Ren. She was a little quiet around everybody, but Mom and Holly lead the barrage of questions as usual.
It hasn't even been that long, but I'm already pining for Ren again. To kiss her arm, to touch her back, to hold her hand while I walk. For the whole trip I don't think we were hardly a room's length apart from each other.
I even dreamt about her last night; some silly conversation about Macs versus PCs.
So folks. That is the reason I have not been posting.
Adieu.
