the adapter is a usb-to-rs232. my haltech engine computer is programmable through a laptop. but my laptop didnt have an rs232 on it.
yes, you can get a haltech ecu for your caprice but you would also have to get a fuel injection system and some sensors. it might run you a bit of money... like 2 grand.
speaking of which, i'm not sure if you've been following the ordeals of my car, but there's been a fair amount of confusion. i'm still getting the occasional lean exhaust condition and the computer's refusing to go into closed loop. putting in new injectors did help somewhat, but it didn't clear the problems. right now, i'm really at a loss as to what's wrong with it.
ah yes. the wonderful TBI. i would say check your fuel filter first, then have a look at the airflow sensor. could be your O2 sensor. could be a weak fuel pump. could be a lot of things. its not too good for the engine to run lean all the time. i dont know how lean you are running. but a real quick and dirty mickey mouse job would be putting larger fuel injectors in. but no garuntee that would work.
also, you could try reading one of the millions of forums out there about chevy small blocks and throttle body injection. there might be other people who have had the same problem.
and can i get one for my caprice? :)
