the Bunk Bed Living Series begins

[First item of business: is it bunk bed, bunk-bed, or bunkbed? I could look it up but I'm feeling lazy and unprententious at the moment.]

So I'm here at the Berkshire Choral Festival at the Berkshire School in Sheffield, MA -- and unexpectedly, ever-so-gloriously online! It's 25 minutes away from my house, but it feels like another world -- ie., finally somewhere in the tri-state area where I don't feel weird practicing :-P The campus is beautiful (except for the angsty prep-schooler's graffiti lining the desk drawers, most of which has something to do with "The Satanic Army"), and my fellow "apprentices" (paid interns who have singing duty, office duty, performance opportunities, schmoozing-with-senior-citizens responsibilities...) are fun and interesting people.

So, I'm up with the birds this morning (literally...since 4:56 to be exact), due to the fresh air of the Berkshires and claustrophobic discomfort of my lodgings. Well, not my lodgings, just my bed. I do get a double room all to myself...however, there's a bunk bed. Being a "thrasher", I don't do the top bunk because I know all too well where I will have landed by morning. So, the bottom bunk it is. Being used to my spacious double bed in Ithaca, or my twin bed surrounded by a spacious room at my parents' house, this is going to be a bit of an adjustment. Maybe I'll just take the mattress off and sleep on the floor in the middle of the room.

I'm going to strive for weekly updates, so here's some basic info:

My days off for the next five weeks will be on Tuesdays, with some Friday evenings off as well.

Week 1 conductor: Craig Jessop (conductor of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir)
Week 1 rep: Poulenc Gloria, Vaughan Williams Dona Nobis Pacem, 4 American Folk Hymns arr. by
Mack Wilberg ("the" arranger for the MTC, I believe)
