So, the ICSO and Choral Union's performance of Carmina Burana at Lincoln Center's Avery Fischer Hall last night. Never in my life have I heard so much applause when I was *on* the stage. Yeah IC for an instant standing ovation!
I've grown really attached to this work, both musically and textually. I actually got weepy at the end of last night's performance -- and Carmina isn't usually something that makes people cry, at least not as a whole. The whole idea of the "wheel of fortune" perpetually turning reminded me that I was having one of the best moments of my life, the caliber of which may never be matched by future experiences. It was the magnitude, not the bittersweetness, of this realization that caught me like a "punch to the solar plexus", as Mr. Doebler would put it.
Semper in te gloria!
P.S. - I chose the Berkshire Choral position :)
