20 things you probably didn't know about Pam Landy

Apr 22, 2009 00:30

I will probably update this to the full 20 things soon. It was surprisingly easy to do 15. It's 20 now.
Anyway, plenty of headcanon here.

1. Still Deputy Director of Counterintelligence for the CIA!

2. Pam is fluent in German, Swedish, and Norwegian.
She is proficient in Danish, Russian, French and Spanish.
She can get by in Portuguese and Ukrainian.

3. She has a master's degree in political science from Georgetown.

4. Pam started her career working in the field under diplomatic cover. Her first assignment was West Germany.

5. As a field agent, Pam was actually very good at being charming and involving. As le Carre says, "a good agent must have entertainment value." She's still perfectly capable of turning this mode on. She just doesn't have to anymore, and she'd much rather get straight to the point.
5b. This skill is related to her ability on the comm to change her speech pattern in order to stay anonymous.

6. She was an only child.

7. Her parents are still alive, but she's not very close to them.

8. She is still fairly close to two of her friends from college.

9. That said, her best friend is really Tom Cronin. (The guy who's basically her sidekick.)

10. Yes, she likes John le Carre novels. It's about the only fiction she reads.

11. She likes a lot of nonfiction, mostly historical.

12. She also likes jazz.

13. The t.v. she watches is pretty much limited to the news, PBS programs (like American Experience), and on rare occasions late-night talk shows.

14. She reads most major newspapers, but is especially fond of The Washington Post.

15. She has a weakness for older movies, especially from the forties. Film noir, screwball comedy. Lubitch's Ninotchika is a particular favorite.

16. She's also got a slight weakness for the old Hollywood leading man type (think Cary Grant).

17. But the guys she's really attracted to tend to be of the straightforward and sweet kind. She enjoys snarking with people, but that's really something she looks for in a friend, not a romantic interest (see: her and Tom mocking the rest of the CIA). So, if it seems like flirting but it features a lot of sarcastic jokes? ...She would probably like to hang out with you a lot more than go on a date. (There is also the other side of snark: snark wars with your enemies! See: any conversation she's had with Wesker.)

18. Pam hates guns. She hates violence in general. She firmly believes that with very few exceptions, there is a more intelligent and less harmful way to solve a problem.

19. That said, she's a sensible woman, and realizes how likely it is that those exceptions will pop up in her line of work. She owns a pistol, and practices at a firing range regularly. She's a pretty good shot. Better than Vosen.

20. She likes the feeling of working in a mostly empty office. It's one of the reasons she often goes in early, and doesn't mind staying late.
