When Copal, who played just before Emperor Norton's at Wake Up the Earth last weekend, said they had a show coming up at TT's, I decided to go see them again. Yesterday, Bats in the Belfry on WMBR played a piece by Cabiria, who'se on the same bill. I got home and parked my car halfway through the song, but stayed in the car until it ended. I also caught that Amber Spyglass, a great local dark duo, is on the bill... and the headliner is Jaggery, Mali Sastri's new band,
formerly The Throes (and member of the Vast Lexington Conspiracy :).
... and it's only $8, 18+, and just two blocks from home at
TT The Bear's Place!
Cabiria - "Combines the sensual grooves of contemporary trip-hop bands like Portishead and Massive Attack, with the haunting, passionate, and sometimes melancholy motifs and phrasings of composers like Rachmaninoff, Chopin, and Brahms."
Copal at Wake Up the Earth
Amber Spyglass - dark rock that ranges from acoustic to electronic, from pop to ambient.
Jaggery (formerly The Throes and Quay) - piano, harp, drums, and upright bass, with Mali Sastri's powerful, ethereal vocals
Copal -...violin, cello, Bass guitar, live electronic beats, synthesizer, doumbek merging to create soundscapes painting moods evoking
wind-swept hillsides,
Mediterranean bluehue,
brilliant sunsets in Prague,
dark oceanwaves curling on shore...
