She's the only one who calls him Yuu-chan.

To everyone else, he's Yuuji, the man who turns into a legend the moment his fingertips strum over guitar strings. Or Hongo-san, the man-the hero-who had turned in his own resignation rather than face another day of having to kneel on the floor to convince a co-worker to resign.

She hears these things about him-sees them with her own eyes, the way he loses himself in music, the admiring gazes of his former colleagues when they had visited their small home once-and she inwardly shakes her head, teeth biting down on her lower lip with the unconscious need to hide the smile that would show she's very, very proud of him.

Yuu-chan is the man who balks at having to scold any of his children, cringes at her raised voice, keeps quiet when all she wants from him is to speak out-the man who had held her hand and stayed as she lay screaming on the hospital bed while the nurses urged her to push, push, push, it's a boy-! ,even if she knew he was more terrified of the ordeal than she was.

The man who always spoke in quiet tones, but with a hint of steely determination when he-they-decided to keep the puppy. She'd looked up at him in surprise then, the same determination in his voice transporting her momentarily to that one moment when the both of them were sitting from across her parents, fingers entwined together under the table.

I am going to marry your daughter.

The man who always slips into bed beside her way past the time she usually expected him to be there. The man who would dare let out a chuckle when she'd turn her back on him with a huff and feign sleep, who would bring his hands up and, undeterred, begin massaging her shoulders that he knew would be stiff from being busy the whole day.

And when his palms slide under her shirt and up her bare skin, his touches slowly becoming more deliberate as the splaying of his fingers lose the guise of giving her a mere back massage, the most she can whisper is a breathy Yuu- in the dark.

A legend. A hero. The father of her children. Her husband.

The man she loves.

--

All their friends call her Sacchan.

It was a nickname that suited her, he always thought, despite the sharpness of her tongue and the way her tone would always spiral two octaves higher (and louder) when she's angry-mostly at him, for all the things he lacks, the things he doesn't do, things that are not in his power for him to do.

Sweet-sounding, because that's what she really is: sweet and caring and more, underneath all the layers of her apron, her work uniform, and those hoodies she's fond of wearing.

But he's always called her Sachi, ever since the first time he'd slept over in her dorm, both of them lying naked and sated under her covers and speaking in whispers even if her roommate was out somewhere, her shyly telling him-just one of the few times he can remember her being actually shy-that no one else has ever called her by that name but him.

His Sachi hates appearing weak in front of anyone else but would curl up against him in bed, slipping from under her blanket to his and pressing her face against his neck, trying to draw strength from him when she had exhausted all of hers for the day. It is during these times when he can be her rock, pulling her close and combing his fingers through her hair as he murmurs Sachiko over the shell of her ear and she answers with a soft abbreviation of his name.

Short-tempered but with a heart of gold, the mother of his children, his partner in life.

The woman who chose him just as much as he chose her.
