A Heathers musical? I'd lick it up!

Mar 31, 2009 20:18

My mom gave me her cold. I've been sick for the better part of a week, and today is the first day that I feel like myself again. So watch as I attempt to cram a week's worth of stuff into one post!

-The Hollywood Reporter is reporting a Heathers musical in the works, starring Kristen Bell. Now, just the idea of making Heathers into a musical is awesome enough, but if Kristen is in it? Book me a ticket to Broadway! So far, she has only read for it, so she's not confirmed yet, but still, I love the idea. Kristen's background is on the stage, and I think she'd be perfect in Winona Ryder's role. (Hello, her name is Veronica. How could it not work?) I actually think Heathers would translate really well to the stage, in the right hands. A cameo from Shannen Doherty in some form would be sweet too, but I'm not holding my breath on that one. I don't know how this story hasn't got more attention. Make. It. Happen.

-So you've probably heard that Gossip Girl is doing a spin-off about Lily's life as teenager. Well, Television Without Pity thinks that idea is boring, as do I. So they came up with a list of spinoffs they'd rather see. My favourite:

Waldorf & Bass: Private Investigators
Obviously, the best GG spinoff imagineable would be one starring Blair and Chuck, and no would make better PIs than these two. Can you imagine if they went into business together and just spent their days digging up people's secrets and performing corporate espionage for their wealthy and powerful friends for a living, all while fighting to keep their thick sexual tension at bay? And hopefully losing that battle most of the time?

Best. Spinoff. Ever. Y/Y?

I also like their idea of Gossip Girl herself running around New York:

Gossip Girl Goes International
In all honesty, it would be pretty awesome to see the particulars of Kristen Bell running around fielding tips and blackmailing people for info on NYC's wealthy elite -- or the wealthy elite of any city, really. Let's send her to a new city every season - London! Miami! Paris! Tokyo! -- and watch her tear the scandalous rich of each town a new blog-sized a-hole. We'd wager even that she's secretly the most interesting character on the show, second to Chuck Bass of course. No one in the whole world is as interesting as Chuck Bass.

Oh, I don't know about that. I think Dean comes pretty close. I mean, I love Chuck, but I loooove Dean.
Speaking of which, TWOP also made a list of how Supernatural stacks up against other shows of its genre, and I have to say, the Charmed ones beating the Winchesters? Really? Yeah, maybe in theory the girls are more powerful, and they can balance battling demons with jobs and social lives. They live in a cool old mansion and manage to fit into society pretty well. But then Phoebe will get all flakey and go after some guy instead of doing her job, and Paige will start having spasms and Leo will be useless as usual. Or they'll have a guest character come on for an episode or two who, in ten minutes, can master powers that it took the girls years to hone, and completely undermine them. (I say this out of love after watching for eight sometimes excruciatingly bad seasons.) So when it comes down to it, when Sam and Dean are focused, no one can hunt like them. Maybe they don't have as many tools at their disposal and maybe things aren't as easy for them to do, but I think that just makes it more interesting. Plus, no one brings the angst more than these boys. I think Prue and Dean would make a hot couple, though. Sadly, I can't seem to find any fic of this.

-I know I'm a couple years late, but I finally finished The OC, and oh man, now that is how you do a finale! All other shows, please take note. I think what got me the most is that the Cohens' house was the only real home Ryan had, and now it was destroyed and they were moving and he'd probably never see it again. And just the way he walked through the house and you saw the flashbacks of him when he'd first arrived (OMG he was so young!), and then driving away with that shot of Marissa, which has become sort of iconic for the series...it was just really well done. It was great to see Seth and Summer get married, but it was a given that would happen. Summer has come a long way from being a character who just said "Ew" to having a real heart, and she turned out to be one of my favourite characters. Sandy is a natural teacher. I think I could actually like law if he were teaching it. And Ryan becoming the next Sandy by helping out a kid the way he helped out him was perfect. It's all come full circle and I couldn't have asked for a better ending.

Gossip Girl
This episode should've been called "It's my party and I'll cry if I want to." Serena sure has a way of making things all about her. I know she (sort of) meant well, but showing everyone you've still got it by staging a birthday party for your ex-boyfriend's little sister is perhaps not the best idea. Though, Jenny didn't have to invite a bunch more people to trash the place, either, so they're kind of both at fault. I think this situation did a good job of highlighting the different worlds of the Humphries and the Van der Woodsens, however. Most people are satisfied enough just to get a cake on their birthday. We don't all have the luxury of jetting off to Spain whenever we feel like it. I can't believe I'm agreeing with Dan here, but acting like you're in high school while you're still in high school is nothing to be embarrassed about. Especially when these kids act like they're forty sometimes.
The problem with Serena is that she just lets people walk all over her and tell her what to do. She doesn't do much thinking for herself. I think that's probably why I don't like her that much. She has all the personality of oatmeal. Oh yeah, and she never gets punished. Everything comes so easily to her. I would've hated her in high school.

Was that Eric I spotted? Hmm, you know I remember Serena having a brother, but it's been so long...

As for Blair and Nate, I'm not entirely opposed to the idea. They're cute together, but there's no spark. I think Blair is going to try to prove Chuck wrong, but eventually she will have to admit to herself that she loves drama, and she can't be with someone safe and predictable. She has just outgrown Nate. Chuck and Vanessa, on the other hand, are fairly hot, and something the show has been building towards for awhile. So there's potential there. Vanessa is more like Blair than she'd care to admit, and maybe that (aside from revenge sex, because, hey, he's Chuck Bass) is what attracts Chuck. It's a little weird though, with the two of them being a couple in real life. Maybe they wanted more screen time together or something.

Anyway, I don't know what happened, but the first half of this season was awesome, and now things seem to be heading downhill. (Oh noes, the long lost brother found Dan! Please.)

I did have stuff to say about 30 Rock and Supernatural as well, but this post is long enough already. Supernatural wrapped filming on Friday, and I don't think the guys have any projects lined up for their hiatus, so I hope they get a chance to just relax and enjoy their time off. They have definitely earned it, especially this season!
