I have a lot of catching up to do with shows from the last week or two, so let’s get to it:
Heroes
So, can’t Elle be around water at all? How does she shower, then? Or do anything, really? (She’d never be able to get on a plane with that much voltage running through her. Unless, you know, she just fried everyone in her way.) Or does something have to activate her powers for that to be a problem?
I hope we learn more about her back story. Like, she was brought to the Company when she was ten, so did she always have this ability, or was it something they developed in her, with shock therapy and what not, to nurse the sociopath within?
And I get that she’s supposed to be like the Anti-Claire, but does she just think of Bob as her real dad since she’s been with the Company, or was she looked after by regular people when she was little? That part was a little unclear, or I missed something. I think it would be really cool if she broke away from the Company and went rogue. Imagine how much damage she could do! I mean, it seems like the Haitian doesn’t really wipe out your memories - he just pushes them to the back of your mind. But something can trigger them to come back, the way Peter’s did. So if Elle gets hers back, she is going to be pissed.
Oh, and it’s also good to see that Kristen’s storyline is tied into the Bennets’ and not something dumb like the squinty twins.
I don’t really understand the whole Adam Munroe thing. So, he’s still the same guy who met Hiro in the 1700s? What’s he been doing since then? How did he get involved with the Company? And why did he go after Kaito and the others? If it was meant as some sort of vendetta against Hiro through his dad, I don’t get it. Or even if he was trying to wipe out the other heroes. Or maybe he was trying to push Hiro towards that point of who he’d become? Turns out that the whole 1700s plot was pretty unnecessary anyway - Hiro learned everything he needed to know from his younger self.
Mrs. Petrelli told Matt that if he picked her brain, he was no better than his father. I’d dispute that: unlike his dad, he was using his power to help people and stop a bad guy. If that was the only way he could get the information, so be it. In this case, I think it was justified. No one was hurt, so what’s the big deal?
So Mr. Bennet isn’t really gone, thank goodness, but what’s to stop the Company from doing a mind wipe and making him do whatever they want? He could forget about Claire and his family, and that would be the worse thing they could do to him. He’d be walking around in his own body, but he wouldn’t be himself. Should be interesting to see what things are like on the other side, though, being a subject instead of hunting them.
I was kind of hoping Mohinder would be the one to go. He’s been dead weight for awhile. Unfortunately, I guess he’s still needed for the meeting between Sylar and the twins when they get to their destination…where hopefully Sylar will finish him off.
Anyway, that was the most satisfying episode this season so far, easily. Here,
have an interview Kristen and Hayden did with TV Guide. They are so cute together!
Ugly Betty
I’ve really been enjoying this season. Here are just a few things I liked this week:
- Mr. Meade headless in the fridge!
-Was it really necessary for Claire to wear shackles to her husband’s funeral?
-"Rest in peace, bitch."
- Wilhimina falling into an open grave. Symbolism, much?
-"Get off my balls. No, seriously, you’re on my balls."
-Justin’s Madonna and child figures are actually Madonna and her kids.
-Setting the tree on fire: classic Hilda.
-Kitten screensaver! (By the way? Socuteitssick.com is not a real web site, unfortunately. I checked.)
-Marc playing chef, and just generally playing evil minion to Wili.
-Alexis threatening to kick Wili’s ass.
-Nice to see you again, Max Greenfield (aka Leo). Too bad it was only for about ten seconds.
-Eliza Dushku was awesome as the Lindsay Lohan-esque drunk actress.
Gossip Girl
I could see Chuck and Blair getting together from the first episode, so I wasn’t all that surprised when it happened, although I didn’t think it would be so soon. They have great chemistry together, but I’m not quite convinced yet...this is, after all, the same guy who tried to rape Jenny. I should hate him. He’s a slimeball. He’s not even all that attractive (hello, caterpillar eyebrows!). And yet...there’s something about him.
Then there’s Nate, who is kind of the Duncan of this scenario. Nice, cute, but bland, without a lot going on upstairs. (Sorry, that’s a little harsh. He seems more lucid than Duncan.) Maybe it’s the fact that he looks like Zac Efron from certain angles that squicks me out? He's just too young-looking (which, since he's playing 17, is probably good).
Supernatural
Everyone seems to love this episode, but I’m not really feeling it. For one thing, they’ve done vampires a lot, and while I appreciate that each episode has had different types of vamps, from the peace-loving Lenore to the ones in Dead Man’s Blood and now these, the show could focus on other creatures. And where vampires are, Gordon follows. I think it was a nice bit of poetic justice that he was turned into the very thing he hunts, so if he had to go, that was the way to do it. Then there was the gore, which was off the charts. Sam decapitating Gordon was disgusting enough, but I couldn’t even watch Dean slice his arm open. I guess that was part of the whole ‘reckless Dean’ attitude, but I don’t know why he’d do that. He must have a very high pain threshold.
The two brotherly scenes were a stark contrast to the above in their simplicity. They said so little, but they said everything. Just the fact that Dean is letting Sam touch the car is a huge step. It feels like we’re at a turning point, and if it’s taken 1/3 of the season to get here, it’s worth it. Now the real fun can begin, like the upcoming Christmas episode with the little Winchesters! Too bad we still have a hiatus and the ongoing writers’ strike to get through first. In the meantime, I hope someone makes icon of Dean as a ninja.
