Hey Lexi. It's Rose.

I tried calling you earlier, but you didn't pick up so I suppose you were busy.

Call me when you get this, yeah?

I was given a bottle of wine, 1904. There was a lot of memories that year.

1904 was a good year. Nice to hear from you. How've you been?

Busy. It's become harder to keep a low profile.

Sometimes that happens. Have you ever thought about moving? Not often, but every now and then new scenery can make all the difference.

[ life was difficult, life was weird. unlife was even weirder. lexi wasn't in the habit of asking for help, especially not when she was hiding from something that was supposed to be impossible. yet here she was. after a tip-off from someone she trusted, she was standing in front of what looked like an attempted haunted mansion gone horribly awry.

...and she still wasn't sure what to do about it. so she sighed... and decided to wait a little bit, looking up at the place and wondering what possessed her to come here in the first place. ]

I jump from impossible to even creepier.

[ she folds her arms over her chest and flicks her hair over her shoulder again. ]

All right, humor me. If you wanted in, how would you get in...

I find that asking can often help.

[ The woman's voice came from behind her. Helen had been out, gathering some information for a new abnormal that they were hoping to bring in. Hoping, being the optimal word. She'd seen the woman approach, slowing her walk back to simply watch in curiosity. People rarely approached the Sanctuary, usually simply leaving it and passing it by. People rarely wondered how to get in. Either this woman was breaking from normal or she truly was seeking them

Helen gave her a smile as she approached, stepping around her to the keypad control for the gate, although not yet entering the code ]

Perhaps I could assist you?

[ lexi's senses had picked up on the presence of someone else in the vicinity not long before she heard the voice, so at least she wasn't taken by surprise. she did turn to look at the newcomer as the woman approached, dropping her arms to her sides and offering a smile so as not to seem threatening. ]

A friend of mine told me about this place. [ if this woman was indeed someone she could trust, lexi figured being cryptic would help her figure it out. ] Said if I needed a sanctuary, I could come here. Or if I needed to warn someone else to be careful... same deal. Can you help me or am I at the wrong place?

[ she was pretty sure this was the right place, but... well, couldn't be too careful. ]

Your friend wasn't wrong.

[ Inputting the code for the gates Helen takes her eyes from the woman, directing them instead to the gates that are in the middle of opening. She waits until they're opened enough to pass through before stepping towards them ]

The Sanctuary serves for many purposes.

[ And whether the woman followed or not to see was her choice, but she had a silent invitation to do so. Word of mouth was one of the main ways that the Sanctuary gained residents or gave help. Many were brought in with little choice - for their safety and for the safety of others but many more chose the Sanctuary's help, either as a permanent resident or with the option of help when needed ]

if it bites;
[ The Sanctuary had been receiving the information on the attacks for weeks. Vampires, things that were supposed to be extinct but that wasn't just it. Monsters. Her mother hadn't appreciated it when she'd called them that, and normally Ashley wouldn't, but giving the brutality of these attacks? To her it warrented the term.

Helen had been tied up with other Sanctuary affairs so Ashley had gone alone, planning on meeting up with a team from the New York Sanctuary when she'd reached Mystic Falls. Except that the team hadn't shown and she'd had no success in contacting them. The Sanctuary had sent them but something had happened. She'd kept her gun tucked away, wanting to try and 'blend in' a little as she walked through the town. She was alert and prepared, but she wouldn't get anywhere if she questioned people at gunpoint, she knew that much ]

[ some of the happenings had been vampire-caused. most had not. that didn't mean lexi was going to sit back and let it all happen. the latest group of newcomers had been wiped out in a matter of minutes. she blamed the hybrid and his gang of monsters. currently, she was helping stefan and damon track the stupid things, wanting to get rid of them before anything else happened.

that meant every single new person to mystic falls got a one-way ticket to being tailed. the blonde was given to lexi. she kept to the shadows, always being a street or two away, far enough to not be spotted easily, but close enough that she could see and smell the girl. human. that much she could tell. the thing tailing both of them? decidedly not.

lexi abandoned her post in favor of quietly taking out the monster she'd seen in the trees, and hoped the blonde would still be there when she got back. likely not, but she could hope. what she wouldn't expect would be for someone to have heard or seen her. ]

[ Ashley had noticed Lexi not long after she'd started following her. Not noticed, exactly, but she'd had the sense of someone following her. It was something that she'd gotten good at being a hunter, picking up things that people tried to hide - she always had her guard up and was always looking for things out of the ordinary, and considering that this entire situation was that? She'd noticed.

Ashley in fact had been there, but she'd turned. Turned tail, gun out and was pointed at her. She'd followed Lexi when she'd taken off, wondering if whatever she was doing (and why she was following her) had had anything to do with the attacks or missing team. Given what she'd seen? She was guessing so, and she wasn't taken any precautions ]

Nice moves.

[ lexi heard the girl's approach, knew there was a gun involved, and still didn't turn in a rush. that would just get her shot. besides, she'd been shot before. a few more times wouldn't kill her. ]

Thanks. You know, you're sharp for a human.

[ because she could smell that human blood. making sure the body was at least temporarily out of sight, she turned to face the girl. ]

You're also not a native of Mystic Falls. Mind if I ask what you're doing here?
