i might have accquired the taste for the out of the world. i plan to buy more arm socks and knee length socks and a clip on lip ring because no way on hell am i ever going to endure the pain of piercing another part of my body. [ Despite suffering from the unfortunate fate of being injured quite frequently, my tolerance for pain is not that great. The only part of my that is pierced are my ears. I screamed when they were being pierced. And, i really mean SCREAMED. ] ever since i walked into that cosplay shop off arab street, i have learnt to appreciate harajuku fashion. followers of this fashion are known to spend hours concntrating on the smallest of details on the entire outfit from the makeup to the garments to the accesories that they can truly call their own. it is interesting to note this individualistic fashion movement in what still remains a largely collectivistic society.

Edward Merrin writes that "having been bored with all the conventional looks that everyone had in Japan, people started to feel more individualistic. Out of all the same old uniform styles, a need to express oneself came about. The Japanese folk suddenly didn’t want to wear the clothes that everyone was wearing just because it was a popular brand, or it cost this much, or this magazine said it was cool. Like the Punk Rock movement, disregard towards the traditional and societal norms of the way you look became hip.
Those that embraced this mentality and the spirit would later become either Harajuku girls or Harajuku boys. To these folks, what was considered cool didn’t even matter anymore. They believed in picking their own style- wearing the clothes they wanted to wear, and looking the way they look. And out came these Harajuku girls…"

as for me, i am very content with just the yet-to-be-bought clip on lip ring and arm/knee length socks.
i just don't identify with any of manga, visual kei, gothic lolita characters.
